Samenvatting

This project identifies and summarizes the evidence from the available literature previously done by several researchers evaluating the effects of training on gait in quadriceps and hamstrings muscles of the amputated leg compared to sound leg in below knee amputee patients. The rehabilitation could improve the strength of the thigh muscles and hence induce the quality of gait in transtibial amputees. The evidence is not of high quality and further research is needed in this field Further research is needed on how much training is necessary for these patients to attain normal performance level of the general population and how much training is essential for the maintenance of these levels for the muscular strength parameters. It would also be possible to compare different training systems, to be able to adapt to the socioeconomic reality of the patients.
