Samenvatting

Stroke is a big problem nowadays. One of the symptoms of stroke is neglect. Neglect is found to be a symptom that inhibits functional recovery and causes many problems in daily activities, such as lateral deviation during walking. This causes the individual to walk into doorposts and walls. There are many different treatments used at the moment for neglect. One of the newest and most promising treatments is prism adaptation. Our research consisted of a controlled trial. We had 4 participants, 2 receiving treatment with prism glasses and 2 in a control group, receiving treatment with normal glasses. Prior to treatment the participants were tested for neglect, mental status, walking speed and lateral deviation. The treatment took place daily over a 2 week period. During the treatment the participants were asked to walk in a straight line a distance of 80 meters while focussing on an object at eye hight. After the treatment the participants were retested for walking speed and lateral deviation, as well as neglect. The retesting took place 1 week and 3 weeks after the treatment.
