This study aims to determine the success and failure factors for optimal protein and energy intake on the fourth day of hospital admission in patients with a SNAQ score of 3 or more points of internal medicine, neurology, oncology, pulmonary, traumatology, cardiology and gynaecology medical wards of the VU University Medical Center Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Conclusion: The treatment of disease related malnutrition in malnourished patients was not optimal. The problem of not meeting the requirements on day four of hospital is not only due to medical factors of the patients. Because we experienced organizational problems obstructed the treatment of patients, it is necessary to increase staff awareness and improving overall management of nutritional care.
