Samenvatting

QUOTE 1: “The information on textile labels in garments can be rather confusing for consumers. And for a brand it is difficult to choose the certificate(s) they should adhere to.” QUOTE 2: “Environmental standards are placed within the framework of the ISO 14000 standard. The global Organic Textile Standard has the highest requirements in the industry concerning organic fibres. - Social labelling is harder to measure and such labels are quite new on the market (most of them created in the 1990s). Most of the social labels base their standards on the standards of the International Labour Organisation. The industry is saturated with labels with no clear standardization and therefore, it is a logical consequence that brands outline their own standards.” RESEARCH QUESTION What should be the optimal care label for a brand? - SUBQUESTIONS: What types of mandatory and voluntary labels exist? Are they the same for all countries? What are the most significant voluntary labels on the market? Why do brands choose to conform to certain voluntary standards? What do consumers find important on a care label?
