Samenvatting

QUOTES “The clothing and textiles industry is the second largest polluting industry, after oil.” “Up to 8,000 different chemicals are used in order to turn raw materials into clothes.” “Working in an industry that is based on constant change and therefore seems unsustainable in its deep core is not something to be particularly proud of.” “I am part of the new generation of future fashion professionals that realizes there is no need for another fashion designer, but a need for professionals that are up to challenge the issues of this global industry.” RESEARCH PAPER Instead of using a chemical based dyeing process, which is known to cause harm to the surface water and surrounding environments, I started looking for new opportunities with the goal to find a better more sustainable dye process and found a unique coloring agent in an invisible world. I examined natural bacterial growth and its pigmentation qualities and the impact this could have on the textile industry. While doing so as a side effect I discovered their aesthetic beauty. The image in the background illustrates the graphic prints of bacterial growth, which offers great and unexpected inspiration for creative minds.
