Critical Thinking

Critical Thinking

Samenvatting

The purpose of this research is to identify possible correlations between critical thinking abilities and cognitive traits of first year’s undergraduate Applied Psychology students at a Dutch vocational university, and a Russian university. This cognitive traits include epistemic preference, dialectic self-perception, and self-construal. This was researched by using a combination of several tests measuring critical thinking and previously mentioned constructs. The study sought to provide a base for possible applications of the results as a selection for new students, or training in these constructs. This study found no significant difference between the critical thinking abilities of Dutch and Russian students. The only construct correlating with critical thinking proved to be an intellective processing epistemic preference. The found information can be used to monitor current students in a longitudinal study. This could be used to indicate the possible increase of this constructs due to the education.
