Trauma sucht Substanz

Bedarfsermittlung und Implementierungsvoraussetzungen zu integrativen Behandlungsansätzen von posttraumatischen Belastungsstörungen und Substanzmittelabhängigkeiten

Samenvatting

This present bachelor thesis thematises the co-morbid existence of substance-related addiction and posttraumatic stress disorder. The thought of focusing on the coherence and treatment possibilities of these two clinical pictures emerged based on discussions with colleagues.
The purpose of the study was to establish the current demand for an integrative treatment and to highlight qualifications of employees to assure a possible implementation.
As a consequence, two research questions, which are to be answered in this paper, became prominent – firstly, the determination of the current number of substance-related addiction clients who additionally display symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder and secondly, the question of prevailing or demanded competences of employees concerning the topic and integrative treatments.
The target group is therefore formed by clients who are currently treated by Caritas and the employees of the advice centre for addicts of Caritas Osnabrück.
Research questions were answered with the help of a theoretical analysis, suitable methodological procedures and the subsequent evaluation. Instruments to investigate the content were a self-developed questionnaire for the employees and an existing questionnaire to evaluate posttraumatic stress disorder.
The results of the elicitation of clients gather the coherence of posttraumatic stress disorder and substance-related addiction and thus, justify the need of a combined treatment of the two diseases. The results of this study – a high occurrence of the co-morbid existence - are underlined by former empirical research.
The interpretation of the questionnaire for employees displays their fundamental knowledge about the diseases and additionally their awareness of the problem. Nevertheless, uncertainties and a lack of knowledge, especially concerning courses of action, become visible.
The results are a reason for changes in the actions of the employees, which would also be profitable for the clients of the advice centre.
Employees have a need for advanced training in order to gain more knowledge about the topic and more cooperative communication through Intervision. Uncertainties which are present at the moment could be eliminated by measures like the ones stated above.
Thus, conditions for the implementation of an integrative therapy are justified.
