Samenvatting

Velsen is an important economic municipality in the province of Noord Holland, with many industrial business and residential neighborhoods. The city is famous for the huge steel industry. After World War II, Velsen was once in rapid developing. But after the changing of infrastructure and industrial structure, the developing pace slowed down. The heavy industrial history and the pollution are working against a positive livable image. Moreover, the negative immigration and high unemployment rate are exacerbating the shrinking problem.

However, Velsen has a natural advantage: North Sea Canal, from which we can see big opportunities. On the one hand, new water living based on the canal can bring the residential function new experience. On the other hand, water traffic directly to Amsterdam provides convenience for office workers and companies. Furthermore, the unique sluice landscape has a potential attractiveness to tourists.

As a result there is a vision for this city. The vision is aimed at improving the quality of Velsen city, considering the existing living condition and reputation. In this project, Velsen will present itself as a green, waterfront, livable city, with opportunity for entrepreneurs and light industrial companies.
