Samenvatting

The purpose of this study was to explore which indicators can be used to evaluate the effects of a training program for teacher coaches. This program aimed at broadening coaches' intervention repertoires in stimulating reflection in prospective teachers. Several instruments were used in a pretest-posttest design to evaluate training effects on the levels of reaction, learning and behavior as distinguished by Kirkpatrick (1959, 1998) and Robinson & Gaines-Robinson (1989). The instruments were a customer satisfaction questionnaire; a written Choice-of-Intervention Test; audio and video transcripts of coaching dialogues; and stimulated recall interviews. The respondents were twelve coaches working in primary schools and two coaches in secondary vocational education. Inter-rater reliabilities for the instruments were found to be satisfactory. Possibilities for further improving reliabilities and for increasing the range of coaching skills covered by the instruments were identified. Effects of training were measured and observed on three evaluation levels.
