Summary
The purpose of this project is to answer the following questions:
1. To what extent are the measurement tools, which are mentioned in the KNGF-guideline
COPD (2005), consequently used during anamnesis, evaluation and conclusion by
physiotherapists working in the first-, second- and third line, in Brabant and Limburg?
2. What are the causes, when this investigation shows that the measurement tools are
insufficiently consequently used and what solutions exist to solve that problem?
Method: A theoretical scope has been formed, based on a literature investigation that has taken place.
This theoretical scope gives background information about COPD and about the measurement tools
from the KNGF-guideline.
Of all the questionnaires published on www.thesistools.com, 68 of the 84 that were filled in, were
analyzed. These questionnaires were filled in by physiotherapist in the first-, second- and third line in
Brabant and Limburg.
Results: Within the total investigation population, the Shuttle Run test (4,4%) and the MPVC (2,9%)
are the least used measurement tools and the saturation meter (79,4%) and the 6 minutes walking test
(63,2%) are most used.
Conclusion: This investigation shows that the measurement tools, which are mentioned in the KNGFguideline
COPD, are insufficiently consequently used in the first-, second- and third line. In the
second line, the measurement tools are often used relatively consequently, except for some
questionnaires, the Shuttle Run test and the VAS scale.
The moments of use vary per measurement tool per line.
The causes of the inconsequent use are divers. There are variable solutions which can be brought up to
stimulate the consequent use of the measurement tools for the treatment of COPD patients. The
information given by the KNGF-guideline about the measurement tools could be extended for
example, or there could one unequivocal questionnaire formed per line, from the other questionnaires.
