Samenvatting

Germany is an immigration country. The largest group with a migration background is formed by Turkish citizens. These include many children who partly grew up multilingual. The multilingual situation is also reflected in the speech therapy surgeries, as more and more multilingual children are being examined of possible language impairment. The diagnostic procedure for determining a language impairment is associated with a number of difficulties, making it a challenge for the treating therapists. That is why Ms. Scharff Rethfeldt designed the "Bilingual Patient´s Profile" (2005) to help the speech therapists with the diagnosis. The Bilingual Patient´s Profile (BPP) aims at giving a comprehensive overview of the linguistic and cultural background of the child. By acquiring all factors and conditions that affect language acquisition, information on language development and language skills of a child can be gained. To find out if the BPP can serve as a means in the diagnosis of multilingual children with suspected language impairment, we had speech therapists provide an indication on the basis of a case study. They had to choose between need of therapy, need of fostering or no requirement. The indication of the speech therapists and the results of the study will be discussed in this paper
