Samenvatting

The garment industry has been under attack by governments and other third parties due to problematic issues within the textile factories. Issues, such as the collapse of Rana Plaza in Bangladesh, has opened the eyes of governments and human rights organisations.
In order to improve the well-being of the workers in factories the social performance of the companies within the supply chain should be improved. This report focuses on the use of the stakeholder (engagement) theory in order to improve the social performance of companies in the supply chain. Additionally, the social performance and the stakeholder engagement strategy of Nike and Adidas are compared.
