Samenvatting

This research is a fundamental part of a Chilean government project called: "Sharing key success factors and experiences in trade in services for SMEs" which has been proposed to the Asian
Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), with the aim of sharing experiences and key success factors which promote the growth in the services trade. These elements will be discussed at a later
date at an international seminar.
As a result, the main objective of this research is to detect successful economies in trade in services and the sectors that boost the success of these specific economies. Moreover, this research seeks to select the most important service sectors which highlight the necessity for every economy to reach external markets.
This research aims to find a clear answer on the follow research questions: "What are the most successful economies of growth in trade in services which can be detected in the last decade in the
APEC region and which sectors have made these economies so successful?"
One of the most important outcomes of this research is the detection of the most successful growth economies of export of services of the last decade which have been lead by the People's Republic
of China and the Russian Federation followed by Singapore, The Republic of Korea, Philippines and Malaysia. These selected economies are successful for two main reasons; firstly for the high
growth rates of the economies (within the selected period of time) and secondly for the importance of this growth for the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of each economy.
Moreover, three specific sectors have been generally identified which have shown highest growth rates at every economy. These sectors are (1) Business Services, (2) Transport Services, (3) Tourism and Travel related services. These specific sectors are distinguished from others because of high trade volumes, as well as their high growth rates.
The outcome of this research enables the Chilean government to invite appropriate speakers who endeavour to indentify the key success factors of the earlier mentioned successful economies and
its specific determined service sectors.
