Samenvatting

This research is focusing on the sedentary behaviour in the work environment, which is linked to a
higher risk on chronic diseases, especially for long periods of sitting of 30 minutes or more. Of all
European countries, the sedentary behaviour of Dutch people is on average the highest, which
highlights the relevance of the problem. In the office environment, it is common that activities are
carried out in a seated position, with this research referring to the activity of having meetings. The
services and energy company, is interested in finding out if healthy meetings would have a positive
effect on reducing sedentary behaviour of employees and therefore, how this can be implemented
into the organisation.

The main question that has been the focus of this research, is: How can organisation X facilitate
healthy meetings to reduce the sedentary behaviour of employees?

First of all, it is recommended for organisation X to raise awareness around the subject sedentary
behaviour for the employees, by means of a workshop and during the health days that are organised
yearly. Secondly, healthy meetings should be normalised within the organisation by providing clear
information on all types of healthy meetings and by stimulation on this subject from managers.

Furthermore, it is recommended to invest in facilities for healthy meetings, like adjustable tables
with matching stools and desk-bikes. Lastly, coaching should be implemented during the intervention
to keep employees informed on the subject and discuss any preferences they have.
