Samenvatting

How can a company not already familiar with mobile development achieve ‘write once, run anywhere’ to create mobile standalone applications for smart phones? Developing mobile applications is not easy. Specifically the fact that all operating systems of smart phones work differently hinders the developers in bringing an application to all smart phones. For example, in order for an application to work on both the iPhone and a Windows Mobile device the developer has to write the application twice, because the two operating systems use different programming languages. This thesis is about the research into methods and options to achieve “write once, run anywhere”. That means that a developer should only have to write an application once in order to distribute the application for all (or most) smart phone devices.
