Samenvatting

Pesticides are used because they are beneficial for agriculture and the cultivation. But the pesticides also have disadvantages, they pose a potential risk to the health of humans and other organisms. That is why the government has set limits on what concentration of pesticides fruit and vegetables may contain. These are the Maximum Residue Levels (MRL).
In order to prove that these MRLs are not exceeded, it is necessary that the pesticides can be analyzed.
In this report the optimization for a multi-residue analysis of pesticides in vegetables and fruit will be described. The QuEChERS method is used for the sample preparation and the analyses were performed on the gas chromatography- tandem mass spectrometer (GC-MS/MS) 7010A (Agilent).
The first part of this project is focused on the optimization of the QuEChERS sample preparation method. Several steps of the QuEChERS method were optimized, such as: dilution of the sample, dilution of the calibration line, injection volume, choice of solvent, choice of clean-up and use of analyte protectant.
After the optimization of the QuEChERS method the choice of liner was optimized. For the last step of the optimization GC-parameters were optimized, these were the oven start temperature and the time from purge flow to split vent.
After all the steps of the optimization were performed, an optimal method was developed. The optimal method was the QuEChERS method with 2 times dilution in normal clean-up samples, in combination with a 2 times diluted calibration line, 1µl injection, empty liner, oven start temperature of 70ºC and time from purge flow to split vent of 3 minutes.
