Towards TOP patterns for command and control

Towards TOP patterns for command and control

Samenvatting

'In the past few years the concepts of the Task Oriented Programming (TOP) paradigm have been developed. TOP can be used for the design and implementation of applications where people have to collaborate to achieve a common goal. Command and Control (C2) systems areprime examples of such applications. In TOP systems are definedusing tasks as the core concept. Modelling consists of identifying thetasks to be done, the information they produce, their dependencies andthe information they share. One of the key features of TOP is its abstraction mechanism, which makes it possible to abstract from both data and tasks. For example, tasks can be parameterized with other tasks or produce new tasks as result. This mechanism makes it possible to formalize abstract C2 frameworks and models in such away that they can be instantiated to construct real-life C2 systems. In this paper we investigate C2 patterns by examining the Incidonesystem, a prototype incident coordination system that is beingdeveloped based on the Search and Rescue tasks of the Netherlands Coastguard in the context of contemporary C2 models.
