Samenvatting

This research is based on a study regarding why hospitality school graduates leave the industry after a few years. Purposeful hospitality was the focus of attention, and it investigated what it requires to attract and retain talent in the industry. The basis for this exploratory research stemmed from my enthusiasm for the hospitality industry and unfolded as a greater need for relevant leadership skills in the industry emerged. Especially nowadays, hospitality leaders face ever-increasing pressures arising from globalisation, a pandemic-induced economic rollercoaster, and a shortage of labour and skilled workers, to name a few examples. So how can we address this?
