This report describes the development of a prototype for a device that can charge and secure the Luna Glass, Luna’s flagship product. The assignment was to create the hardware and software necessary to facilitate a device that can charge the Luna Glass with room for future changes. The development is solely focused on the electronics and electronic features of said prototype and will not focus on form or design.
This project started with research into possibilities and the wants and needs of Luna. Then moved on to designing a Prototype PCB from scratch with the ability to charge the Luna Glasses, take charge from any USB charger, give charge to any USB device, provide visual feedback and take input through a magnetic hinge-mechanism as well as a button interface. This Prototype PCB was tested and found to successfully meet the requirements set by Luna.
Despite the success of establishing a foundation for the Luna Glass Charging Case to be designed upon, a lot of details are still unclear of how to proceed towards production. Because of this, the following was recommended: to keep in mind what consequences changes to the Luna Glass have on the Charging Case and vice versa, to fully assign an employee to the design and maintenance of the Charging Case and to let the Charging Case replace some of the functionality on the Luna Glass to improve the design.
