Assessment framework for structural design and construction techniques of industrial building: adaption from Bulgaria to the Netherlands

Samenvatting

The proposed research examines the international practicality of a large industrial production hall which is under development by GBS Plovdiv AD in Industrial Park Shumen, Bulgaria. The main goal is to evaluate whether the current technical design may be applied in different European regulatory and environmental conditions with the Netherlands being the point of reference. The research is in reply to the rising trend of the construction industry in Europe to have flexible industrial building solutions that would address the export requirements of the companies.

The report begins with an introduction which explains the context of the research and formulates the main research problem. It also places the project in the strategic objectives of the company and wider area of the industrial hall standardization with the scope and limitations of the comparison study defined. The theoretical framework subsequently provides technical and regulatory framework. It examines Eurocodes and national annexes and presents some of the important concepts associated with climate loading, structural behaviour of prefabricated reinforced-concrete halls, and building envelope performance. There is a focus on specific differences between the Bulgarian and Dutch regulatory environment that might affect design requirements. The methodology explains the research design used, which is comparative analysis, load evaluation, and engineering assessment to find out how sensitivethe current hall design will be to different national conditions. There are exact standards of assessment of the necessary adaptations and identify possible adaptation needs for expanded international applicability.

The results reveal the most affected structural and architectural factors by regulatory and environmental differences and represent its engineering implications by comparative assessment and verification procedures. These findings are discussed with reference to the GBS-Plovdiv AD practical implementation, with consideration of viability, advantages, and constraints. The report ends with technical recommendations to aid in the creation of internationally prepared industrial hall concept to be used in future cross-border projects.
