During this study, the calcified cartilage tissue in the jaws of a range of extant chondrichthyans was investigated and related to feeding modes. Chondrichthyans are cartilaginous fishes, whose entire endoskeleton is composed of cartilage tissue. The chondrichthyans can be divided into two groups, the elasmobranchs (sharks, rays and skates) and the holocephalans (chimaeras). In this study, both groups were investigated and compared.
