Analyzing recent challenges of Dutch farmers
validation and prioritization of Dutch farmer’s challenges through interview and surveysAnalyzing recent challenges of Dutch farmers
validation and prioritization of Dutch farmer’s challenges through interview and surveysSamenvatting
The study examines the current challenges faced by Dutch farmers and how they prioritize them. Based on literature research and seven in-depth interviews, the main bottlenecks are identified: increasing environmental regulations, economic pressure due to low profit margins and high land and technology costs, limited market power, and demographic aging. Through a MoSCoW survey, farmers rank possible solutions; transparent communication with regulators and financial compensation for environmental requirements score the highest. The results show that system-level support (policy, income, knowledge) carries more weight than purely technical innovations. The research offers recommendations for policymakers and the agricultural sector to strengthen the long-term sustainability of the farming industry
