Samenvatting

Executive Summary This report presents an impact analysis of the co-creation methodology used in the CommuniCity project to adapt technological solutions to local community needs during the pilot phases. Integrating insights from the first and second rounds of pilots, it examines how the uptake of the co-creation methodology shaped the design process and influenced the design process and its outcomes. This deliverable does not include the third round of pilots, as this phase took place at the very end of the project. Given the limited timeframe, it was not feasible to adequately explore, contextualize, and analyse the material before the project’s conclusion. Including this round without sufficient analysis would have compromised the depth and quality of our findings. Instead, we have chosen to translate the findings from rounds one and two into a practical reflection tool was used by the pilots in the third round (for a description of this tool see deliverable D2.9). Building on Deliverable D2.8 and D2.9—which documented co-creation experiences from the first pilot round and introduced the Principles for Ethical and Inclusive Engagement—this report focuses on how co-creation best practices were taken up, interpreted, and applied in the second round of pilots. The analysis draws on a rich combination of data sources: qualitative interviews, field observations, and a targeted questionnaire completed by designers and developers. Taken together, these sources illustrate how designers and developers experienced the application of co-creation best practices, and how these practices shaped both the design process and its outcomes. The report is structured around five core co-creation best practices, exploring how each was implemented, adapted, or challenged in practice: 1. Involving the community from the beginning and at every stage 2. Meeting the community where they are 3. Collaborating with intermediaries 4. Making expectations explicit 5. Leaving room for adaptation We explore how designers and developers perceived and experienced these five established co-creation best practices—where they were taken up, where they were not, and how deviations shaped the design processes and outcomes of the pilots. The report concludes with a synthesis of key insights and lessons learned to inform future co-creation efforts.
