Ethics of AI in Radiography Practice
Ethics of AI in Radiography Practice
Samenvatting
This chapter aims to raise awareness about the ethical considerations surrounding the use of AI in medical imaging and radiography. It emphasises the importance of integrating both medical ethical principles (beneficence, non-maleficence, respect for autonomy, and justice) and ethical AI principles. Throughout the chapter the use of AI in radiography is reflected on from the perspective of six ethical AI principles brought forward by the World Health Organisation (WHO), which also cover the medical ethical principles: Protecting autonomy; Promoting human well-being, safety, and public interest; Ensuring transparency, explainability, and intelligibility; Fostering responsibility and accountability; Ensuring inclusiveness and equity; and Promoting responsive and sustainable AI. By reflecting on AI use case examples from the perspective of these principles, this chapter aims to guide radiographers in contributing to the responsible use of AI in their practice. Based on this information, the chapter also highlights the impact on professional identity and future competencies required for radiographers. Relevant radiography literature and research evidence are also recruited to contextualise ethics in our profession for now and the future.
