Creating an Educational Forensic Research Game
Creating an Educational Forensic Research Game
Samenvatting
-Abstract-
Forensic research students often lack practical training opportunities at real crime scenes, hindering their ability to practise their theoretical knowledge and develop essential skills. This study explores the potential of an educational game to bridge this gap. Through interviews, questionnaires and playtesting, the research found that the concept of a Virtual Reality (VR) game holds promise for enhancing student engagement and understanding of crime scene methodologies. Early tests in a 2D environment demonstrated that students found the game engaging and educationally helpful. Key forensic procedures, such as securing scenes, collecting evidence, and maintaining the chain of custody, are simulated in a realistic, interactive environment. This allows students to practice safely, without risking real evidence. This study concludes that VR technology and educational gaming can potentially improve forensic education. Future research should focus on developing and testing VR tools to improve effectiveness.
