Towards Fullscale PHA Production on Residual Streams
Towards Fullscale PHA Production on Residual Streams
Samenvatting
Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) is a biodegradable bioplastic that can be produced by bacteria when consuming a carbon source. Volatile fatty acids (VFAs) are used as building blocks for PHA bioplastics and can be efficiently produced from organic waste through anaerobic digestion. However, the variable composition of industrial waste streams leads to inconsistent VFA profiles, making PHA production unstable and unpredictable. This research focuses on stabilizing and controlling VFA production from waste streams to support reliable, full-scale PHA production with consistent quality.
