how the Netherlands changed and adaptedSamenvatting
Image it is 2100 and half of the Netherlands has flooded. How will such a disaster influence how we see ourselves and our society and result in new design principles for the much-needed new cities? By combining several sources (e.g. the WUR and PBL future scenario's) and based on his view on the newly formed society, Kasper has used design research to explore where future cities could be located, what could be leading design principles (and also which current principles will no longer be used) and how such a future city could look like at a city, district, neighborhood and building block scale. The proposed city is not a tabular rasa, but a sincere and refined plan that builds on the current location's characteristics (the existing buildings are kept as much as possible and the identities of the current villages are used to give an identity to the new different districts) and the existing subsoil and landscape (the ground and soil conditions and streams determine the location, type and height of the building blocks). Having failed to respect nature once, cfr. the current climate crisis, Kasper's future city aims to restore historical and landscape structures.
