Canalisation of the Liesbeek River has resulted in a deterioration of its ecosystem. In order to stop the deterioration of the Liesbeek River. The Rosebank village green area of the Liesbeek River is being rehabilitated. However, it is not known how the hydrology and morphology of the Liesbeek River will respond to this rehabilitation. Therefore, it was researched what the impact was of the activities done during the realisation of the Liesbeek rehabilitation project on the water and sediment discharge over two months in the Liesbeek River during low flow conditions. The was done with measurements of the water depth, flow velocity and sediment transported during extensive fieldwork for two months. In addition, literature research was done, and calculations were made to check the measurements and theory. The study showed that in the rehabilitated area of the Liesbeek River, the base flow velocity decreased, and the water depth increased. Resulting in an increase in sedimentation, creating a more natural habitat. Even though the time period was too short, and it was outside of the scope to research if the rehabilitation measures had a positive impact on the ecosystem of the Liesbeek River. A comparison of the studied hydrological and morphological changes during and after the rehabilitation with the urban stream syndrome, and other rehabilitation projects suggests that the rehabilitation had a positive impact on the hydrology and morphology of the Liesbeek River and in the future on the ecosystem of the river.
