Calibration and validation of WD-XRF multielement method as well as standardized methods ASTM D2622/4927 and ISO 20884
Samenvatting
In this research several methods were developed and validated using the Supermini 200 wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer. A multielement was calibrated containing 26 elements and corrected for interference according to the de Jongh algorithm. The limits of detection and quantification as well asthe reproducibility show variation depending on element mass and the characteristic X-ray used for measurements. Detection of low concentration (10ppm) for light elements was shown to be impossible and for elements silver to bismuth large variations were found. Two standardized methods
namely the ASTM D2622 and ISO 20884 were successfully calibrated and validated such that the repeatability and reproducibility were below that of the method after compensating for the fact that these were measured in a single laboratory on one machine. The calibration of ASTM D4927 was attempted but due to solubility issues it was unable to be calibrated and validated. It was found that helium could be saved by measuring the pulse height adjustment less frequently. Future research should determine the repeatability of the multielement method as well as the calibration and validation of ASTM D4927 and
other standardized methods.
