Samenvatting

At an aquaponics farm in Luxembourg called “Fësch Haff” the effect of the water quality on the growth rate and behaviour of the rainbow trout has been analysed. Three times a week the water quality in the fish tank expressed by temperature, KH (carbonate hardness), pH, ammonium/ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and DO (dissolved oxygen) has been determined. Once a week ten trout have been weighed to determine weekly growth rates. The behaviour of the trout has been monitored as well during the two-month period. The majority of the water quality parameters laid in the optimal range except for the nitrite concentration and DO. Only clear effects of too low DO levels have been observed on the trout. Many other stressors like power outage, fish transport and lack of feed have contributed to health problems and growth impediment. The objective to have a trout weight of one kilogram at the end of the season can be reached.
