Samenvatting

This paper presents the preliminary design of the Horti-database, a digital tool supporting the development of drone-based monitoring systems (DBMS) for greenhouse crops. With increasing demand for sustainable food production and reduced pesticide use, DBMS offers a promising solution for automated, precise pest and disease monitoring. The Horti-database provides essential information on crop architecture, pests, diseases, and natural predators, enabling drone designers to tailor hardware and detection systems accordingly. For growers, it supports timely implementation of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies, minimizing pesticide use and improving crop quality. Built using MySQL, the database features cross-referenced tables and a user-friendly dashboard for accessing categorized data. It also supports machine learning by storing pest/disease images for computer vision training. The project promotes innovation, sustainability, and workforce development in agri-horticulture, while fostering collaboration across disciplines such as plant science, robotics, and data analysis.
