Samenvatting

The Elimschool in Rijssen is a school for special primary education. At the Elimschool a few observations have been done. The observations during the gym lessons and psychomotricity give the impression that the children of the Elimschool should get more attention to their body experience. Emck and Bosscher (2004) explain body experience as an individual way of how someone perceives and criticizes their own body, in which the intuitional, perceptual and cognitive aspects play a role. It is not certain there is a decrease of body experience with the children of the Elimschool. To inquire this, the following question was asked; How does the body experience of children at the Elimschool, a special primary school, differ from children at a regular primary school, at the age between 10 and 12 years? The body experience questionnaire for children (Hofland & Uphof, 2012) was used as measure instrument for this inquiry. This test gave us no significant differences between the body experience of the children of the Elimschool and the body experience of the children of a regular primary school. Although a few children came out of the test with less body experience. For these children it is important to get more attention to work on their body experience. A good way to increase this is by using psychomotricity.
