Energy clusters in context - complex adaptive (innovation) systems.

Since the publication of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) study “To Err is human”, followed by “Crossing the Quality Chasm” two years later, patient safety has become an important concern for all involved: patients, professionals and health care organisations (Bleich, 2005; Kohn, 2000). Over the last …

In 2004 the first adaptive thermal comfort guideline was introduced in the Netherlands. Recently a new, upgraded version of this ISSO 74 (ATG) guideline has been developed. The new requirements are hybrid in nature as the 2014 version of the guideline combines elements of traditional non-adaptive comfort …

Thermal comfort is determined by the combined effect of the six thermal comfort parameters: temperature, air moisture content, thermal radiation, air relative velocity, personal activity and clothing level as formulated by Fanger through his double heat balance equations. In conventional air conditioning …

The objective of the ITRACT2 project is to create attractive transport options for regions with low population densities including rural areas. A basic assumption of the ITRACT project is that information and communication technology can be used to build IT services that allow for more adaptive transport …

Clusters development takes place in an increasingly changing and complex context where global and local developments are interconnected. Various regional and innovation studies recognize the need for place-based studies to include the larger context in which clusters and regions are found. Interest and …

The creation of artifacts is one of the factors that make us human. Artifacts contribute to our continual adaptation to the world by permitting better knowledge and control of it. The focus of this chapter is on the role of one specific kind of artifact: sensors. In contrast to our immediate perception …

The maturing field of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) results in long-lived deployments that produce large amounts of sensor data. Lightweight online on-mote processing may improve the usage of their limited resources, such as energy, by transmitting only unexpected sensor data (anomalies). We detect …
