From grey to green infrastructure in a changing climate
From grey to green infrastructure in a changing climate
Samenvatting
Processes of urbanization and climate change are affecting the water balance inour cities, resulting in challenges such as flooding, droughts and heat stress. Inmany places worldwide the development of watersheds has increased the imper-vious land cover and led to an increase in stormwater runoff volume, with resul-tant flooding. Now, with increased high intensity rainstorm events predicted inmany places under a changing climate, we often cannot rely on channelling awaystormwater in large concrete pipes under the ground. Recognising changing sea-sonal patterns of runoff, we must make room for water in our public spaces.
