Samenvatting

This thesis explores the improvement of communication and performance tracking within a front-end development team using Jira project management software at Creative Clicks. The reason for this exploration is the various challenges faced by the front-end team, most notably miscommunication between the front-end team and their in-house stakeholders and the underutilization of data. These challenges have led to longer development times, errors in landing pages, and a lack of data-driven insights into the teamandapos;s performance.

Research was conducted to identify communication bottlenecks, key performance indicators (KPIs), and analytical tools to enhance Jira’s effectiveness. By using qualitative and quantitative research methods, including unstructured interviews, desk research, and observational research, it was discovered that in-house stakeholders expect to receive landing pages from the front-end team that are free of technical issues. To achieve this, the front-end team depends on clear instructions from the stakeholders regarding the expected specifications for the landing pages. Additionally, open-ended questions, System Usability Scale (SUS) tests, surveys, and data analysis were used to create and measure the potential of the prototypes designed to improve the front-end teamandapos;s Jira practices.

The Jira workflow of the front-end team was adjusted to make analytical tools available to inhouse stakeholders or tracking the front-end team’s performance. Furthermore, a new format for creating development requests within the Jira work environment of the front-end team was created to streamline communication between in-house stakeholders and the front-end team. Testing these prototypes yielded positive results. The findings suggest that the new request format can significantly reduce miscommunication, thereby increasing the efficiency and quality of the developed landing pages. It also indicates that finding suitable KPIs for the front-end team and using appropriate analytics can provide valuable performance insights. Based on the SUS test of the analytical tools, it is recommended to create a guideline on how to use these tools effectively. The company is also advised to continue using the custom request format and to create custom formats for other types of
requests made within the Jira environment of the front-end team.

The conducted research and created prototypes were limited to Jira, and it is advised that future research explores alternative project management tools like Asana, Monday, and ClickUp for potentially greater customizability. Additionally, the solutions and KPIs were tailored to fit the current workflow of the front-end team. Further research could explore new workflows for the front-end team that might result in even better-tracked KPIs within the project management software and could create more efficiency for the front-end team.
