Relation between dynamic knee valgus and shock absorption of the lower extremity during single-leg vertical drop landing measured by accelerometer
Samenvatting
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear is a common injury among healthy young people. Landing with dynamic knee valgus (DKV) is one of the main causative factor that could lead to ACL rupture. During deceleration phase of landing the increased valgus deviation can diminish the shock absorption capacity of the knee. Therefore, the amount of stress and load on the tibiofemoral joint and ligaments increases, that could lead to trauma or chronic injuries. Thus, it is essential to measure the joint loading in the lower extremity by measuring the acceleration of impact, so called shock that the body has to absorb during landing.
There is lack of information about shock absorption capacity during single-leg landing with DKV, that is important in order to better understand the kinetics and kinematics of the lower limb. The purpose of this study is to assess the relation between dynamic knee valgus and shock attenuation of the lower extremity during single-leg drop landing.
