Samenvatting

Over the past decade, the reliability of the overall quality of mbo (vocational) students has declined in the Netherlands. People from the professional field question the value of an mbo diploma severely when they consider hiring recent graduates. This is due to the fact that all the various studie tracks within Dutch vocational education have divergent manners of contructing their curriculum and assessing the students. New regulations have been set in motion by the Dutch government. For the sake of quality and comparability, central examination is going to take place for the generic sujects mathematics, Dutch and English. This thesis aims to provide a clear description of the current plans of this project and its development so far, as well as to examine what stategy would be the best to adopt, concerning the central assessment of the sudject English. This paoer concludes with recommendations for the latter.
