Samenvatting

The case we describe is the journey of one company, a SME sheet metal manufacturing company in development of a Digital Twin in a production setting. We choose to highlight this specific case for several reasons:
• A clear Industry 40 technology was the center piece of the project: The development of the real time digital simulation model (a Digital Twin) to support the production.
• This development was “from Scratch to working demonstrator’, so we can relate to the complete time line of development.
• The problem is a well-known one in a LEAN SME environment: a bottle neck, and processes with local optimalizations vs overall optimalization in a High variety, low volume environment. A complex production environment with inevitably complex control and planning needs.
• The learning done, was supported by the HAN and other knowledge institutions and actively influenced by the experiences of several companies. So this is a good example of how BNAL in practice might work
