Design of a planar coil and reader for temperature measurement

Design of a planar coil and reader for temperature measurement

Samenvatting

At the biomedical department of the TUDelft a sensor node is designed[1]. This is an Autonomous Wireless Sensor Node(AWSN) with temperature monitoring, which is powered up wirelessly and have data transmission through backscattering. The aim of the project is to design a receiver for the AWSN and to design a applicable coil for the energy harvesting.
The coil is calculated, with use of different formulas found in literature. Also the coil is simulated to have a more accurate idea of the parameters. From the calculations and simulations results two designs, rectangular and hexagonal, are proposed.
From measurements the signal strength is known. Given the signal strength the receiver blocks are determined. There are two main blocks of which the receiver consists, a RF-frontend and a LF-backend. These blocks are turned into circuitry and simulated. In simulation everything is working, however there is still a problem with the buffer. After simulation the different parts were tested. A complete test is missing due to noise environment which could not be solved yet. However the RF-frontend completely is working and reaches the requirements. In the LF-backend the buffer is distorting the signal, and a lot of 100MHz noise is induced into the circuit.
