An Evidence-Based Rehabilitation Protocol for Failed Femoral Surgery:
Optimising Recovery Through Exercise Therapy and Global Best Practices – A Case StudyAn Evidence-Based Rehabilitation Protocol for Failed Femoral Surgery:
Optimising Recovery Through Exercise Therapy and Global Best Practices – A Case StudySamenvatting
This study focuses on developing of a cost-effective and comprehensive
physiotherapy protocol for the rehabilitation of patients with femur fractures complicated by
osteomyelitis with significant muscle atrophy. The primary physiotherapeutic goal is to regain
ambulatory mobility, ensure the safe progression of weight-bearing activities, and address
psychological and functional barriers inhibiting recovery.
Conclusion: This study provides evidence-based guidelines for physiotherapy practice in
resource-limited settings. Early and structured exercise interventions significantly reduce long term costs, enhance functional outcomes and QoL in complex orthopedic cases. Future
adaptations of the developed protocol should incorporate advanced gait retraining techniques,
enhanced patient education, and a follow-up system for long-term outcomes.
