The 2BeSure case: Be careful, innovation on the work floor represents a problem faced by innovation managers at insurance companies, which is initiating new ideas within the organisation and then implementing and embedding these in the current management organisation. Unfortunately, employees of the various departments currently contribute relatively few ideas. Garry Robson (Manager Development & Innovation at 2BeSure) is facing a dilemma in the field of innovation. In the past innovations were developed outside organisations and it was difficult to bring them back into the organisation later, but now it has been decided to place the innovations at the heart of the organisation. Within this new set-up, 2BeSure has placed a separate department for Development & Innovation within the company structure, in addition to the departments for greenhouse horticulture and agriculture. It also set up an Innovation Board, which includes staff from the Development & Innovation Department and staff from other departments. The idea is that under this new set-up all employees of the departments can easily contribute ideas to the Innovation Board. Unfortunately, the employees of the various departments have contributed relatively few ideas under this renewed set-up. Garry wants to create a solution, so that employees from different departments can generate ideas and the organisation can innovate from the heart.
