Recommenders play a significant role in our daily lives, making decisions for users on a regular basis. Their widespread adoption necessitates a thorough examination of how users interact with recommenders and the algorithms that drive them. An important form of interaction in these systems are algorithmic …

This research investigates power optimization in Thread mesh wireless networks through an algorithmic approach, aiming to reduce overall power consumption while maintaining reliable network performance. Transmission power serves as a key parameter for achieving energy efficiency, and the study focuses …

Background The closing of schools and sports clubs during the COVID-19 lockdown raised questions about the possible impact on children’s motor skill development. Therefore, we compared motor skill development over a one-year period among four different cohorts of primary school children of which two …

This book is a journey through coexisting, emerging or speculated about, types of digital value transfer infrastructures. Using digital value transfer infrastructures as a central case study, this thesis is concerned with unpacking the negotiation processes that shape the governance, design and political …

As AI systems become increasingly prevalent in our daily lives and work, it is essential to contemplate their social role and how they interact with us. While functionality and increasingly explainability and trustworthiness are often the primary focus in designing AI systems, little consideration is …

This research reviews the current literature on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the operation of autonomous Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). This paper examines three key aspects in developing the future of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and UAV operations: (i) design, (ii) human factors, …

The Future of Design Education working group on sustainability developed recommendations for integrating sustainability into higher education design curricula. The recommendations provide a foundation for design instruc- tion, using well-established evidence-based tools, methods, and mindsets that apply …

This chapter will focus on the deep evolutionary history of the cognitive capacities underlying linguistic iconicity. The complex capacity for linguistic iconicity has roots in a more general cross-modal ability present throughout the animal kingdom, cross-modal transfer. Cross-modal transfer is the …
