Samenvatting

The global agricultural landscape is increasingly dominated by industrial systems based on neoliberal priorities, leading to the disappearance of smallholder farmers in the EU. Conventional agriculture favours huge landholdings where fewer people are involved in the process of producing food. These trends are also taking part of the Netherlands where small holder farmers are being marginalized through a continuous process of land concentration. Growing concerns with these issues have led to numerous movements such as the food sovereignty movement which states that food should be seen as a common and not a commodity. Entangled with the food sovereignty movement are Community Supported Agriculture (CSAs) which also provide an alternative approach towards agriculture and strongly believes in collective and collaborative attitudes, but currently in the Netherlands CSAs face a tremendous struggle to enter the market, which is acquiring land due to high prices and shortage of land. Consequently, this study seeks to investigate How do bottom-up arrangements enable Dutch CSAs to achieve collective land stewardship in line with their principles?
