Comparison of methods used to extent the time of hay uptake in horses
Samenvatting
Domesticated horses are often fed in few and big rations, which leads, in total, to a much shorter feeding time than the natural time of 12 to 18 hours per day. In praxis, several methods are used to extent the feeding time of hay uptake. In the present study three methods (4 x 4 cm hay net, hay andstraw mixture, and grazing muzzles) and the control method “loose hay” were compared on their effect on the feeding time and the feeding rate of hay. The experiment included 12 horses between 4 and 25 years.
