The correlation between central sensitization disorders and self-management in chronic non-specific low back pain patients
The correlation between central sensitization disorders and self-management in chronic non-specific low back pain patients
Samenvatting
Low back pain (LBP) is a global problem that causes high rates of treatment costs, sick leave, and functional disability. Most LBP patients suffer from non-specific LBP (NSLBP) and a smaller portion of sufferers develop chronic pain (CLBP). Within CLBP patients, a more complicated group of syndromes called central sensitization syndromes (CSS), may occur. Research has shown that self-management (SM) strategies may be an effective, low-cost approach for the treatment CLBP. However, further research is required to see if low SM skills are correlated to developing CSS and negatively impact severity level. This research used a cross-sectional method to explore the correlation between SM and CS using scores from two reliable and valid measurement tools. No correlation was found
(p=0.150), however this does not necessarily imply there is no correlation. It was concluded that longitudunal studies may be the best modality to explore the progression of patients. Furthermore, it is recommendable to use a higher sample size with a more evenly distribution of participants.
