FRACTUREN BIJ EPILEPSIE : Risicofactoren voor fracturen op Kempenhaeghe

Rechten: Alle rechten voorbehouden

• De leeftijdscategorie 31-40, 41-50 en 51-60 jaar;
• De nevendiagnose osteoporose;
• De nevendiagnose hemi-, di-, tetra- of quadriplegie;
• Het niet dragen van polsbeschermers;
• Het niet dragen van heupbeschermers;
• Het niet consequent dragen van orthopaedisch schoeisel;
Summary

The department Physiotherapy of the epileptic center "Kempenhaeghe" questions if the risk factors are responsible for the amount of fractures which occurred the last 3 years among the inhabitants. During the literature study an inventarisation has been made of the most occurring risk factors with people worldwide who are epileptic.
With the results of this literature study a questionnaire has been made and this is handed out among the care coordinators of the 325 inhabitants of the long-term stay at "Kempenhaeghe".
From the conclusions of the questionnaire recommendations will be provided to "Kempenhaeghe" to set up actions to prevent fractures. Also recommendations are provided for future investigations.
There appear to be not many similarities between the conclusions of the literature study and the investigation on "Kempenhaeghe". From the conclusions possible risk factors appear which can lead to fractures. These are:
• The age category from 31 till 40, 41 till 50 and 51 till 60 years;
• The diagnosis osteoporosis;
• The diagnosis hemi-, di-, tetra- of quadriplegie";
• Not wearing wrist protectors;
• Not wearing hip protectors;
• Not consequently wearing orthopedic shoes;
• The remains in bed room, living room or hallway.
In accordance with "Kempenhaeghe" it has been decided to give recommendations about the creation of preventive actions that can minimize the occurrence of fractures. The decision to use these recommendations will be left to the department Physiotherapy itself.
