Samenvatting

Many charities are facing increasing difficulties in attracting sponsors to fund the charities’ activities. This thesis gives an answer to the problem of the organisation in how it can increase their revenue for the next few years. This research focuses on two distinct areas: first, other weekend schools in the Netherlands with the same activities and goals are questioned about their strategy in finding sponsors. Second, all of the medium sized companies in Haarlem have been approached with questions about their sponsorship policies.
The first recommendation is to make sure that the awareness of the organisation increases. This could be done by starting to describe the identity of the organisation. When this is clear, this identity should be carried out as much as possible.
For more structure in the organisation, it is recommended to start working with a CRM-system. This could cost some money, but it could be possible to obtain it as a form of sponsoring.
The next recommendation is to expand the profile of the ideal sponsor. With this new profile the organisation can re-examine whether there is an interest to sponsor them.
To increase the involvement of the sponsors, it is recommended to use social media more intensively and to send a newsletter every month. Within this newsletter it is possible to reserve some space for a message to the sponsors where they are asked to talk with their relations about their relationship with the organisation. This could arouse interest with those companies too.
Another recommendation is to see whether national funds, that also support other weekend schools, are willing to support this organisation too. Also the municipality of Haarlem could be approached to see whether there is a possibility to get a subsidy, since most of the other weekend schools receive subsidies as well.
The last recommendation is to see whether the parents of the children are willing to pay for the lessons. This should be investigated to be useful information in the future.
