Samenvatting

Introduction
Men are insufficiently diagnosed with an eating disorder. This is because they are less likely to seek help and because too little research has been done on eating disorders in men. Prevention programs focus on influencing body image because negative body image is the biggest cause of an eating disorder. To find out how prevention programs for men can be improved, the following research question was created: 'What is an effective way to positively influence body image in Israeli adult men?'

Method
In order to identify what factors influence body image in Israeli adult men and what prevention programs are currently offered, a literature review was conducted. The databases Pubmed and ScienceDirect were used for this purpose. In addition, an unstructured interview was conducted with Shahar Kochavi to identify the current prevention method given to Israeli adult males and to understand what elements in prevention are effective. In addition, a focus group was conducted with six Israeli adult men to understand what factors influence their body image.

Results
It was found that Israeli adult men's body image is influenced by the idea of being male, sports, comparison to others, upbringing, social pressure, social media and conversations with others about the body. Current prevention programs mainly focus on social media, social pressure and conversations with others. In the literature, it appeared that prevention programs showed a better effect when given to men separately, rather than to women and men at the same time. Conclusion An effective way of prevention to influence body image in men is given to men alone. In doing so, it is important to discuss the risk factors on negative body image: masculinity, strength and sports, parenting, social pressure, and social media. During education, it is effective to use cognitive dissonance and interactive elements.
