A DialogueCultural Democracy in Performative Theatrical Practices:
A DialogueSamenvatting
The value of a democratic approach to a cultural production relates to giving space for all kinds of otherness to emerge. We decided that the following aspects of working democratically will be subject of inquiry: • Polyvocality as the elementary characteristic of a democratic cultural process and outcome. • Vulnerability as a necessary attitude to be open and give space for otherness. • Reality as the context one should be open to and that should be allowed to interfere in a democratic cultural process. We believe that the arts are not only an expression of ideas and values, but could also initiate a process based on ideas and values. In that sense we call them culturally democratic. To work democratically within the arts could give people (artists and non-artists) the possibility of experiencing the values of democracy.
