Samenvatting

The research was proceeded at Gefährdetenhilfe Scheideweg e.V. This institution takes care of the rehabilitation and social integration of young men and women (between 18 and 30 years), who have a criminal background or have been addicted to drugs or alcohol.
In the course of the investigation, initially, in cooperation with the internal client, ten core competences were set which are relevant for the pedagogical assistance work within this institution. Methodical behavior as well as the ability of designing and realization of programs is necessary. Further competences are empowering of clients and the committed arranging of the relationship to them. One has to be able to identify risk groups and factors and thus to introduce appropriate measures. Finally yet importantly, one has to take responsibility for the assistance work, reflect critical, work in a team, be innovative and have ethical competence.

Consequently, questionnaires arrived at the result that all staff members consider every competence as very relevant for their own work. Furthermore, they realized that the entire work lacks the competences of teamwork, empowering of the client and the critical reflection to some extend i.e. there is the greatest need for change. Of good quality is the ethical competence along with innovation and the committed arranging of relationships. Regarding the reasons, though, the investigation does not come to a valid conclusion. Nonetheless, there are signs of problematic communication processes and missing freedom for the pedagogical work of the individual staff member. Furthermore, the lack of sufficient qualification is noticeable.
